Master the Art & Science of Physique Optimization with Dr. Eduardo De Souza (PhD) and Christopher Barakat (MS, Pro Natural Bodybuilder).
March 21st & 22nd 2026 | 24 Seats Available

For the first time, Dr. Eduardo De Souza (PhD) and Christopher Barakat (MS, Pro Natural Bodybuilder) will come together to deliver a unique in-person learning experience that bridges cutting-edge research with real-world application.
This seminar is designed for students, coaches, physique athletes, researchers, and exercise science enthusiasts who want to:
• Understand how body composition and hypertrophy are measured in the lab.
• Learn how to apply training and nutrition strategies to maximize results in the gym and on stage.
• Gain a competitive edge through evidence-based knowledge, taught by two leaders in the field.

• How body composition & muscle growth are studied in research labs. (Dr. De Souza)
• Lab Activity: Attendees will experience assessments such as ultrasound (muscle thickness, cross-sectional area, fascicle angle/length), DXA, BIA, and skinfold calipers.
• Practical nutritional strategies for body composition optimization. (Chris)
• Common mistakes & myths debunked with real data.

• The science behind resistance training optimization: variables & methods. (Dr. De Souza)
• Practical programming for resistance training — improvement season vs contest prep. (Chris)
• Applying research findings to real-world physique outcomes.
• Interactive Q&A and case study discussions.

This seminar is designed for Exercise Science students, coaches, physique athletes, researchers, and anyone passionate about strength, hypertrophy, and body composition science. No advanced degree or prior lab experience is required—just curiosity and a desire to learn.
Not at all. While many examples will focus on physique athletes, the principles and applications apply to anyone looking to understand and optimize training, nutrition, and body composition.
We are limiting this seminar to 24 attendees to ensure a highly interactive and hands-on learning environment. (This is also due to classroom size & practicality for lab activities. This WILL sell out FAST, so get in while you can!)
Yes. Attendees will have the opportunity to experience lab-based body composition assessments, including ultrasound, DXA, BIA, and skinfold measurements. We will also demonstrate how tools like Electromyography (EMG) and linear transducers (Gymaware — velocity-based training) are utilized in research studies and their potential practical benefits.
Yes. Cancellations made 30 days prior to the event will receive a full refund. Cancellations made within 30 days of the event are non-refundable but may be transferred to another attendee.
Bring a notebook, comfortable clothes for lab activities, and an open mind. If you’d like to be assessed during the lab session, wear athletic attire for accurate measurements.
One meal (lunch) will be provided daily. If you have dietary restrictions or allergies, please shoot us a message at Chris@CompetitiveBreed.com so we can accommodate appropriately. Lodging is not included. Attendees are responsible for their own accommodations and meals (aside from lunch), but we will provide recommendations near The University of Tampa.
Yes. All attendees will receive a certificate recognizing their participation in the seminar. Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will also be provided for multiple organizations. (Pending approval, but expected via NASM, ACSM, & NSCA. Updates will be communicated to all attendees.)
